Q. Is CCC a registered nonprofit?
A. Yes. Community Cares Coalition (CCC) received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in July 2025. This designation allows CCC to pursue charitable contributions and support its work to strengthen emergency shelter services in our community.

Q. Is the Community Cares Coalition (CCC) proposing to build an additional shelter in Traverse City?
A. No. CCC is not proposing to add another stand-alone shelter to the community. Rather, CCC is advocating for a consolidated emergency shelter model that brings existing day and night shelter services together in one 24/7/365 facility. The goal is to reduce fragmentation, improve coordination and safety, and provide more consistent access to emergency shelter and supportive services.

Q. What model is CCC currently evaluating?
A. CCC is evaluating a 165-bed, 24/7/365 consolidated emergency shelter designed to bring existing shelter services together in one location. The model is intended to provide greater consistency, safety, stability, and coordination for shelter guests while also supporting the safety and well-being of people living, working, and visiting in our community.

 

Q. Is CCC committed to funding the proposed shelter?
A. CCC has committed to helping fund capital costs associated with a consolidated shelter, once a construction plan and scope have been agreed upon by the appropriate community partners.
